Enthusiastic, visionary and committed individual sought to join the Trustee board of the Rhodes Arts Complex

Rhodes is a thriving venue in the heart of Bishop’s Stortford which houses the Bishops Stortford museum, the Stage and the Screen and provides a year round varied programme of theatrical and music events, educational workshops and lectures as well as meeting space for a variety of purposes including community groups, dance classes and other activities.  The Rhodes is managed by an independent trust comprising nine trustees supported by the staff of the Rhodes and officers from the Town Council.

East Herts District Council, Bishop’s Stortford Town Council and Rhodes Birthplace Trust the have declared an intention to transfer the  performance activities which currently take place at the Rhodes to a new larger venue to be sited at Old River Lane in Bishop’s Stortford.  The timescale for this transfer is yet to be finalised however it is currently expected that it will open in 2022/23.  To complement this the trustees of the Rhodes Birthplace Trust have created a vision to transform the existing complex at the Rhodes into a hub for heritage, education in the performing arts, and community.  This would build on existing strengths and enrich the artistic and cultural facilities available to the town, whilst not conflicting with Old River Lane.

A vacancy has arisen on the Board of Trustees of the Rhodes and an enthusiastic, motivated and committed individual is sought to join the team.  They will play a pivotal role in realising the vision for the future of the centre as well as ensuring that the successful existing programme continues and transitions smoothly to the new venue.

The ideal candidate would be

  • Visionary, as well as, practically minded
  • Passionate about the potential for the future developments at the Museum and Art Complex at the Rhodes that will complement the new theatre at Old River Lane and enhance the future facilities for a growing town and surrounding area
  • Have relevant skills in finance, business, transition management, arts, heritage or education
  • Be able to attend daytime meetings and have sufficient time to devote to the Trust Board and the project of developing  the future vision

In order that they can devote their attentions primarily to the Rhodes site, they should not be directly involved in Old River Lane.  The role is not remunerated.

If you’re interested, please submit a CV and a covering letter setting out why you wish to be involved and what you feel you will contribute to:
