The Bishop's Stortford Museum

Bishop's Stortford Museum was established in 1938 in two listed Victorian buildings which are the birthplace of Cecil Rhodes, Victorian empire builder. As such it is a significant local landmark and has national and international links. The Cecil Rhodes Collection and the Local History Collection are housed together and provide a new focus on the town's rich local history and unique links with the story of Cecil Rhodes, Empire and Africa.

The Museum has accredited status from the Museums Libraries and Archives Council.

The Gallery

The Thorleybourne Gallery regularly hosts exhibitions by leading artists, photographers and sculptors and provides opportunities for local schools and groups to exhibit their work to the public.
