Old River Lane Partnership terms signed

Following a decision made at the Town Council meeting of 6th February Bishop's Stortford Town Council has signed Heads of Terms for a partnership agreement with East Herts District Council and the Rhodes Birthplace Trust for the devlopment of a new Arts Centre at Old River Lane.  Full details are available here.

We are recruiting

The Town Council is recruiting for an exciting and varied role spporting our administrative, tourism and events teams.  The role is Initially offered on a one year fixed term contract with the potential to become permanent.   It would suit someone liikes challenge and variety in their job, who is organised and can turn their hand to a wide range of activities, and is seeking an administrative role with a customer-facing element.  The successful applicant will get to experience a broad spectrum of the Council's activities and gain a wide appreciation of its work.  See http://www.bishopsstortfordtc.gov.uk/vacancies  for full details and application form.

Christmas Fayre 2018

The Town Council recieved lots of positive feedback from both residents, traders and retailers regarding the 2017 Christmas Fayre. Thank you to all those you attended and took part. Some photos of the event are included

Bishop's Stortford Christmas Fayre and Road Closures 2nd December 2017

Christmas will truly come to Bishop’s Stortford on Saturday 2 December with a number of exciting events including Bishop’s Stortford Town Council’s Christmas Fayre, Coopers Winter Wonderland and the Grove Cottage Santa Dash and Reindeer Run. 

Bishop’s Stortford Town Council’s Christmas Fayre will commence at 09:30 and span North Street, Potter Street, Market Square and South Street, all of which will close for the event and will be filled with Christmas delights. Walking into town is recommended as road closures will operate from 06:00 in North Street, Potter Street, South Street and High Street east of Basbow Lane.

Visitors can pick up lots of Christmas goodies, from gifts such as hampers and handmade jewellery to real Christmas trees and wreaths. Hungry shoppers can keep the cold at bay with many warming delights from our food court.

Children will have lots of fun at Santa’s Grotto, pat some reindeer straight from the North Pole, or ride a pony. Princesses will mingle with crowds, providing photo opportunities for young fans. Everyone will enjoy the fun fair rides and games on the train while stilt walkers, fire eaters and magicians will amaze.

There are several arenas with live music and entertainment including Thorngrove Primary School 20 Children’s Choir, The Bishop’s Stortford High School, Bishop’s Stortford Rock Choir, Clark and Johnson, Somewhere2sing, Bishop’s Stortford Ukulele Society, Water Lane Theatre Company, Martin the Magician, Belly Babes, Theatre Train, Tributo, Bishop’s Stortford Town Band, ckmusicacademy and the Salvation Army.

Road closures will be in force on 2 December from 06:00 to 18:00 on North Street, Potter Street, South Street up to the junction with Station Road, High Street up to Basbow Lane and Market Square with access only available to pedestrians. Ingress and egress will therefore be limited to pedestrians and emergency vehicles only. Apton Road will be available to vehicles for access only.

During the same period the ‘One Way’ system will be suspended on certain roads, allowing for vehicles to drive in both directions. This will apply to Church Street, Water Lane and Barrett Lane.

Also during the same period Church Street, Apton Road, Newtown Road, Water Lane and Barrett Lane will have a weight restriction of 7.5 tonnes.

Diversions will be in effect to divert traffic around the closed area.

Timings for the event are as follows:
· Road closures, restrictions and diversions: 06:00 – 18:00.
· Christmas Fayre Event: 09:30 – 16:00
