The Bishop's Stortford Town Council Annual Meeting for 2021 is now open for public questions.
Make your voice heard and learn about town issues, some of which may even be new to you!
During the 2020/2021 financial year the Town Council has progressed many projects including the refurbishment of Cemetery Lodge so that it can be let as residential accommodation, the refurbishment of the public toilets at the Cemetery, additional cycle stands in the town centre, environmental improvements to its properties as part of the effort to combat climate change and revisions to the Neighbourhood Plans which cover the town.
In addition preparatory work on the £2.6M ‘Castle Park’ project continues; this will see major improvements in the facilities at Castle Gardens and Sworders field including an extension to the Skate Park and a wholly new facility for wheeled sports including BMX. The signage/interpretation programme for the riverside walk (‘Waterside Stortford’) has been completed and investigations have studies have continued on the options for creating cycle routes within the town.
These projects are in addition to the Town Council’s regular activities, such as the maintenance of the cemeteries and allotments, the running of the community mini buses, including the Stortford Shuttle, on behalf of the Mini Bus Trust, and the management of four community centres, on behalf of the Community Centre Trusts. The TIC continues to provide residents and visitors alike, with information on the Town and its activities and what’s on in the surrounding area.
Covid has, of course, had an impact on these and the Council has been involved in the responses to this global pandemic. The restrictions, sadly, led to the cancellation both of Carnival and the Christmas Fayre as well as closures from time to time of the Community centres. Covid-secure procedures have been introduced throughout the Council operations.
