East Herts District Council- responsible for council tax, housing, benefits, business relief, waste collection

Hertfordshire County Council- responsible for social and adult care, schools, Childcare and family centres, recycling centres (tips), Health and wellbeing services

HertsHelp Is an organisation set up for those vulnerable people and those self-isolating who need support from volunteers or or 0300 123 404

A new referral information leaflet for professionals and volunteers has been developed to aid key workers, frontline staff, volunteers or those who have been redeployed from their normal role. This document is available on the HCC website and gives a comprehensive listing for services and organisations within Hertfordshire that may help in this trying time.

Apton Day Centre Bishop’s Stortford - A centre for the elderly and vulnerable now closed but are organising meals and shopping drop off

They are organising meal drop offs

Residents can obtain information including phone numbers for assistance they may require. Residents requiring help will need to register on-line or have someone do it for them after which Herts Help will triage callers to determine their individual needs including medical, telephone befriending, shopping & meals. The Apton Centre is cooking & distributing meals to our customers & will continue to do so.

Domestic Abuse Support

Herts Independent Violence Advocacy Service (IDVA) on 0300 790 6772 (Monday-Friday 9am-5pm)

If someone requires emergency refuge accommodation, they can call Safer Places specialist domestic abuse service on 0330 102 5811.

Alternatively, victims can contact Hertfordshire’s victim service team at Beacon, even if they do not want to report the incident as a crime. They can call a case manager in confidence on 0300 0115 555 and press option 3 or send an email to

For information and advice for individuals or others who are worried about someone else, the website is a valuable resource for anyone who is experiencing domestic abuse or those carrying out abuse who want support to change their behaviour.
