2. MINUTES OF THE MEETING HELD ON 1 FEBRUARY 2007
RESOLVED: that the minutes of the meeting held on 1 February 2007 be confirmed as a correct record of the proceedings and be signed by the Chairman.
3. DONATION OF SAFETY ALARMS TO SIXTH FORM PUPILS
Members were advised that there were 441 sixth form girls in the schools in Bishop’s Stortford and the cost of a safety alarm to each pupil amounted to £1323 which was in excess of the Youth Council budget of £1000. Members were very disappointed that they would not be in a position to fund the cost of a safety alarm to each sixth form girl but still wished to pursue the project by purchasing as many alarms as their budget would allow. Members were however reminded that they had selected a very small target group to whom to make the donation, and could be criticised for not considering other groups of young people, i.e younger teenagers or boys etc who were probably at equal risk when going out in the evening. Members however remained committed to the idea of at least making a start in offering some form of protection to a particular target group and were aware that there was much enthusiasm at their school among the sixth form pupils. In view of this, and the fact that the Police had acknowledged that they considered the project to be a good one, they wished to recommend the purchase of 330 alarms to pass on to any pupil who was interested in receiving one.
RECOMMENDED: that the Youth Council purchase approximately 330 safety alarms at a cost of £1000 to donate to sixth form girls at Bishop’s Stortford secondary schools.
4. MATTERS RAISED BY YOUTH COUNCILLORS
Resignation of Chairman and Vice Chairman
The Chairman and Vice Chairman announced, with regret, that the next meeting of the Youth Council would be their final meeting due to their imminent A level examinations. As many Youth Council members would also be sitting public examinations in May and June and then leaving School, the April meeting of the Youth Council would therefore be the last meeting until September 2007, when new members would be elected to the Youth Council
