2. MINUTES OF THE MEETING HELD ON 6 DECEMBER 2007
RESOLVED: that the minutes of the meeting held on 6 December 2007 be confirmed as a correct record of the proceedings and be signed by the Chairman.
3. PRESENTATION FROM REPRESENTATIVES FROM STREET FM
Mrecedes Johnson and Sinead McGuinness from Street FM advised members that they were in the process of organising a new project called ‘Battle of the Bands’, which would be held at the Rhodes Arts Complex on 4 April 2008. The event would take the form of a competition, with a prize for the winning band and about 200 tickets would be available for young people aged between of 11-19. Four bands had already confirmed their attendance and a further four to six bands were being sought to take part. Each band would be allocated ten tickets in order for their friends to attend to offer support and the remainder of the tickets would be allocated free of charge on a first come, first served basis. Tickets would stamped on the back and be sent out to home addresses one week before the event.
The event would include an alcohol free bar and free buffet, along with information stands. Youth Cllrs were requested to promote the event in their schools.
4. INDOOR ROLLER SKATING VENUE
Members had been circulated with a copy of a letter from two ten year old boys who had written to the Town Council with their suggestion for an indoor roller blading centre in Bishop’s Stortford. Whilst members were impressed by the suggestion, it was not considered something that could come to fruition due to the lack of a venue. Members did however feel that it could be possible to arrange occasional skating events in local school playgrounds and agreed to investigate the possibility with their schools. Members also considered that the boys may like to come to the next Youth Council meeting to explain their idea in more detail.
5. INFORMATION FROM JAMIE SOUTHWELL, HCC YOUTH WORKER
Jamie Southwell advised members of the various activities which were to take place at the Northgate Centre, which included regular music events, PA system training and football training etc. In addition, an application for funding had been made to set up a small recording studio at the Centre.
Jamie Southwell also stated that he was particularly excited about recent funding he had received to set up a self contained gym at the Youth Centre. The gym would be open four nights per week, staffed by a qualified gym instructor and youth worker and would have excellent equipment. The gym would also host fitness classes such as boxing fitness and yoga. The facility would be open to 13-19 year olds at a low cost, would include a female only evening.
6. MATTERS RAISED BY YOUTH COUNCILLORS

Members were keen to further their idea to introduce recycling in schools and
Cllr Mrs Hollebon suggested that an invitation be extended to the officer at East Herts Council with responsibility for recycling to attend a future meeting of the Youth Council.
