RESOLVED: that the minutes of the meeting held on 10 January 2008 be confirmed as a correct record of the proceedings and be signed by the Chairman.
3. PRESENTATION BY PIERRE ALEXANDER AND NICHOLAS DYNAMOU
Pierre and Nicholas, two ten year old boys from Stansted Mountfitchet had written to the Youth Council to present their business plan for a proposed roller blading rink in Bishop’s Stortford and the Youth Council had invited the boys to attend a meeting to present their ideas in person. The presentation was very professionally prepared and included a petition from classmates supporting the suggestion. The closest roller blading rink was situated in Welwyn Garden City which was very difficult for children to travel to on a regular basis and, therefore, they were looking for a facility to be built closer to home. In their presentation the boys had considered public transport accessibility, price, provision of refreshments, discipline, safety, marshalling and fund raising ideas.
The Youth Cllrs were extremely impressed by the excellent presentation and the Chairman explained that, whilst the Youth Council had no resources or remit to set up a permanent roller blading centre, Youth Cllrs would investigate the possibility of setting up regular skating events in local school halls. Pierre and Nicholas were thanked for their presentation and the Youth Council agreed to contact them in due course to advise them on the outcome of the feedback received from the schools.
4. APPOINTMENT OF JUDGE FOR THE STREET FM ‘BATTLE OF THE BANDS’ COMPETITION
The Youth Council had been contacted by Street FM with a request to appoint a judge for the ‘Battle of the Bands’ competition, which was due to take place at the Rhodes Arts Complex on 4 April 2008.
