Sworder’s Field is an informal green space/recreation area in the heart of the Town Centre and incorporates two very popular skate facilities, a multi-purpose goal/sports facility, three small youth shelters, a trim trail, and slide and swings. At the other end of the Field is a play area for younger children and a very popular splash pool.
A Bandstand is available for informal performances. Two tennis courts are sited on the adjacent Castle Gardens. Ice cream and soft drinks are also usually available from our Ice Cream vendors.
The field is the venue for the Town Council’s annual summer fun day, which follows the carnival, and hosts a circus and a fair each year, it is also availabl;e for hire for suitable outdoor events. Please see Venue Hire for more information.
The space was gifted to the former Bishop’s Stortford Urban District Council in 1928 by the late Joe Brazier. The land passed to BSTC in 1974 following local government reorganisation. The gift created a Charitable Trust called the Brazier Trust, which is administered by BSTC.
