Stortford in Bloom

The Town Council supports 'Stortford in Bloom', a group of able volunteers who tend the floral and herbal displays in the Town Centre planters, planters on Causeway railings and the hanging baskets around the town.  We are always looking for people to help and it requires only a few hours of your time and gives pleasure to both visitors and townspeople by making the environment brighter and better.  If you are interested please contact us.

Public Benches

Benches are provided by the Council at strategic points in the town for rest and relaxation.
If you think we have missed anywhere where lots of people go please let us know and we will add it to our list for consideration. Please bear in mind that our pavements are quite narrow in places so it is often difficult to locate benches exactly where they would ideally be sited.

Remembrance

The Town Council organises the Annual Remembrance Sunday Service of Remembrance on behalf of the Royal British Legion. The main parade takes place on Remembrance Sunday, starting at 10.30am at The Causeway.  A smaller service is organised by the Royal British Legion on Armistice Day the 11th of November.

Market Square Toilets

Market Square Toilets were donated to the Town in 1913 and are run by the Town Council.
The toilets benefited from a complete re-build in 2018 to make them fit for the 21st century.
They are fully accessible.

St Michael's Churchyard

Maintenance of the closed Churchyard at St Michaels Church is the responsibility of the Town Council.

Newtown Road Garden Sanctuary

This area was re-designed and re-planted in 2015 and provides a peaceful haven for residents and visitors to sit for a while and enjoy the atmosphere! Please note that Newtown Road Memorial Garden will remain closed until the current works are complete. It is anticipated that if all goes to plan, the Garden will re-open at the end of October 2023.

CCTV

Bishop's Stortford Town Council pays for the Town Centre CCTV system, which is operated by Hertfordshire CCTV Partnership. Requests for footage of an incident in which you are involved should be made directly to the partnership via the form on their website.
